Day 6 What Tools to Bring on a Trip?

Usually tools stay at home when one travels. Or are there some tools you should always take with you? This time we needed tools.

Day 6 We Needed to Build

Now we were feeling more relaxed about the cats because the first bunch was doing really well, and my sister was doing her best too. But still there was work to be done, so we headed back to my sister's property. More cleaning, organizing and rearranging. We had a full day of work ahead of us.

The mobile home that Sis offered to house our cats was moved to her property for other reasons that eventually fell through. The mobile home was set up correctly and secured, but proper stairs to enter the house were never constructed because no one ever moved in. If my sister was going to go into the mobile home at least two times a day or more, she needed proper, secure and safe stairs. We started looking around her property. How can we build a staircase? We found several pallets on the property, and began planning a makeshift staircase for her to enter the home safely and easily. But four pallets wasn’t enough…and what tools do we have? None....Not much….not even a hammer. Time to get more supplies, but what will we need?

Tools! When traveling, especially in a vehicle, even if pulling a small utility trailer, one usually doesn’t take tools with them. Maybe a flashlight, hammer and a screwdriver, emergency type tools. And yes, there are RV’ers who do take tools with them, which is excellent; but who takes an electric circular saw with them? The tools that someone has at their home, drills, saws, etc, are not something that travelers usually take with them. We noticed that as we were trying to assemble the staircase, we lacked any tools to construct an acceptable platform.

We brainstormed items we needed to pick up and headed out. We definitely needed more pallets. Where do we find pallets in this town. AMAZINGLY, there was a pallet warehouse that sold extra pallets, for a very reasonable proice. We picket up 5 more. That should do. We then headed to the local hardware store and bought electric screwdriver, deck screws, and a few sheets of plywood! That will do.

By time we finished picking up our supplies, it was getting late, so we headed to a nice Mexican restaurant called La Huertas. Good food, reasonably priced with chips and salsa. Staff is very friendly and accommodating and the margaritas we tasty, a little salty, but yummy after a long day. With our stomachs full, we headed back to the hotel, for tomorrow would be another work day, and we needed to head out of Oklahoma by noon. Today was a good day, with lots accomplished!
