REFLECTION: What do you want to do with the rest of your life?

Predict the future by creating it

You didn’t come this far to stop

Ultimately, for all of us, because no one has figured out how to avoid it, our time on this earth is limited. Maybe that is what makes life so precious. My husband and I are quickly entering the late autumn of our lives. As children move off to college, our house is too big for us to maintain, we found our home doesn't fit us anymore. Things change. We reflected that retiring from our jobs of 30 years propelled us quickly through our lives, as we did all the things we were "supposed" to: College, Marriage, House and Children. Looking back, we do not remember the day to day activities that saw sunrise to sunset, first day of marriage to nearly 40 years later, excitement of new house, different house, same house, birth to college for our children, with the exception of accented memories in between.

As an educator, reflection was an essential part of my day to day planning. Now, as we begin to ruminate the question above, we find we must once again reflect. PsycheCentral.com has a great article on the step by step decision making process you can take to help you sort out your questions, thoughts and decisions.

Upon our reflection, we answered the WHY? I mentioned a few reasons above. Are there more reasons? Sure! But with that, you will have your own reasons for your decisions, and that is based on your personal reasons and situation. For us, we decided that it was time for us to sell our house, and move. But where? WOW! We had no idea! Both our parents were deceased, and our children moved internationally that we could not follow besides a visit. We bought a world map, hung it on the living room wall, and begin sorting places in our country and the world we would like to move to. We decided on the climate we would like to live in, drew lines of areas that met our needs and bought colored "dots", green (good, fits our parameters), yellow ( good option with some reservations) and red (definitely not for us).
